What is Family Pairing?

Family Pairing is TikTok's parental control system that lets you link your account to your teen's account and customize over 15 safety, well-being, and privacy settings. You can control screen time, restrict content, manage who contacts your child, and more.

Setting up Family Pairing

  1. Open TikTok on YOUR device and go to Profile > Menu > Settings > Family Pairing.
  2. Select "Parent".
  3. Scan the QR code displayed on your teen's device (they should select "Teen" on their end).
  4. Once linked, configure restrictions from your account.

What's new in 2025–2026

TikTok rolled out its most comprehensive safety update in September 2025. The Time Away feature lets parents block TikTok during specific hours with a recurring calendar schedule. Parents can now see who their teen follows, who follows them, what topics shape their feed, and get notifications when the teen uploads public content. For users under 16, a full-screen reminder with calming music appears if they are on the app after 10 PM. When a teen reports a video, they can choose to alert a parent or trusted adult, even without Family Pairing.

Warning signs to watch for

Important: Both parent and teen must accept the pairing. Your teen can unlink Family Pairing at any time, but you will receive a notification if they do.
