What is Family Center?

Discord's Family Center lets parents connect their account with their teen's to see general activity — servers, friends, time on calls, and purchases — without accessing message content. Since early 2026, Discord has implemented mandatory age verification and teen-by-default safety settings for all users under 18.

Setting up Family Center

  1. Create a Discord account if you do not have one.
  2. Go to User Settings > Family Center.
  3. Select "Parent/Guardian" and generate the linking code.
  4. Your teen goes to their Family Center, selects "Teen," and enters the code.
  5. Both of you must accept the connection voluntarily.

What you can see and manage

What's new in 2025–2026

Discord implemented mandatory age verification in early 2026 using facial age estimation and ID verification. Teen-by-default settings are now automatically applied to all verified minors, restricting adult content. In November 2025, guardians gained visibility into weekly purchases and top interactions. Parents can now control DM access, sensitive content filters, and data privacy settings. When a teen reports content, they can notify their parent — though the specific content reported is not disclosed.

Warning signs to watch for

Important: Parents cannot read message content. Discord prioritizes teen privacy, offering visibility into usage patterns — not conversations.
Tip: Review the servers your teen belongs to weekly. If server names seem concerning, search for them online to understand what community they represent.
